Le Parnasse Français, the Golden Era during the reign of the Sun-king Louis XIV, will be the central focus point of the Atelier for Early Music 2010. The Trossingen Early Music Institute and the Propstei Aflenz welcome students to practise, rehearse, perform and research. An expert team of eighteen well-known teachers will be leading the workshops, aiming to create an inspirational and unconventional artistic exchange. By recreating the atmosphere and music of the past that once sounded in the Roman provost’s church of Aflenz, participants will nourish their handcraft whilst expanding the boundaries of their imagination and exploring new horizons.

REPERTOIRE
The core repertoire will consist of music that was played at the court of Louis XIV.: e.g. works by Jean-Baptiste Lully, François Couperin, Marin Marais, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Denis Gaultier, Antoine Forqueray, Jean-Marie Leclair and Michel-Richard Delalande.
It is also possible to play works from French composers who had influence on, or were influenced by, this court-music. In the final concert, both students and teachers will perform dance suites, sacred works and opera scenes.
For details about the separate courses, see
TEACHERS, CONTENTS OF THE COURSES.

PROPSTEI AFLENZ
The Propstei Aflenz was founded in the 12th century. Although a few buildings are original, most of the complex was built in the 17th century. The Roman parish church, that is part of the complex, can accomodate six hundred people and has an excellent acoustic. The common rooms of the Propstei will serve as classrooms. Situated at the foothills of the "Hochschwab"- mountains in the north of Steiermark/Austria, Aflenz is a wellknown recreation centre.
